Women in Energy Conference – 2016

October 25, 2016 by kfelpel

In mid-September 2016, a group of 30 current Aggie women students had the opportunity to interact and hear firsthand from 25 women executives and 5 Former Students in the electric, power and energy industry at Constellation Field in Sugarland, Texas – home of the Sugarland Skeeters baseball team.

This program, put together by Professor Steve Puller from the Texas A&M Department of Economics and sponsored by the Gulf Coast Power Association, was designed to assist undergraduate women to learn the realities of working in the energy field as well as providing an opportunity to network with these highly successful executives.

Four panelists took turns answering questions from the students and sharing their experiences in the power industry.

After the panel was complete, the students had the opportunity to mingle with the executives and enjoy the baseball game. This unique event left quite an impression on the students and helped build lasting relationships between the Aggies and the executives who were in attendance. Dialogue between the two groups continues to this day with several of the professional women offering resume tips and career advice for those students who are looking to enter this particular field after graduation.
