The Department of Economics, in cooperation with the Gulf Coast Power Association, has created a new opportunity for current undergraduate students to get a first-hand glimpse of work in the energy industry. On October 17, 2016 several students participated in “Take a Student to Work Day”. Students attended an energy luncheon in Houston where they were hosted by an energy sponsor. After the luncheon, the students visited the sponsor’s workplace to see the energy industry firsthand.
One of the participants, Samen Karim, had this to say about the event –
“Everyone in college says they want to do this or that with their degree but what do those jobs consist of on a daily basis? Do you really know what you want to do until you experience it? By participating in “Take a Student to Work” I learned about the energy sector and gained invaluable experience. It opened me to a whole new job market. I would highly recommend this to students who are not entirely sure on what their future career path is.”
