Department of Economics and BP Energy Dinner

December 19, 2018 by kfelpel

The evening of October 24, 2018 the Texas A&M Department of Economics and British Petroleum (BP) combined their resources and hosted an “Economics Energy Dinner” for approximately 45 Economics students.

Held at Traditions Country Club, Economics PhD, Masters and undergraduate students were able to interact with Mr. Orlando Alvarez (President and Chief Executive Office of BP) and members of his staff while enjoying dinner. Mr. Alvarez delivered a wonderful keynote talk that detailed a day on the BP Trading Floor and highlighted the potential for economics majors to find rewarding career positions with British Petroleum.

The dinner was just one of the many collaborations between BP and our Department over the past few semesters. Earlier this Fall, BP conducted an Energy Commodity Trading Simulation run by employees of British Petroleum (BP), and BP also participated in the September ECON Career Panel.

The evening was a major success. Any number of the students plan on applying for BPs “Sophomore Experience” as well as for open internship positions within the company. The Department continues to work with BP to schedule future events for interested students.
